About the Role

Join a collaborative affordable housing legal team in a senior role leading complex Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) transactions. You will manage deals from engagement through closing, build developer relationships, and help shape the team's continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead affordable housing transactions involving 4% and 9% LIHTC allocations, tax-exempt bond financing, and multiple funding sources.
  • Manage client relationships and guide for-profit and nonprofit developers through the development process.
  • Draft, negotiate, and close limited partnership agreements, operating agreements, loan documents, and other complex financing instruments.
  • Structure transactions involving Section 42 LIHTC and Section 142 tax-exempt private activity bonds.
  • Supervise associates and paralegals, coordinate deal teams, and contribute to training and a collaborative practice.
  • Work with colleagues on the team's growth and broader reach.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and 8 or more years of affordable housing and LIHTC transactional law experience.
  • Law firm experience and a record of independently managing transactions from engagement through closing.
  • Deep knowledge of Section 42 and Section 142, including 4% and 9% LIHTC deals, tax-exempt bonds, and multi-source financing.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating partnership agreements, operating agreements, and loan documents.
  • Strong client relationship skills, particularly with developers, and experience supervising legal professionals or managing deal teams.
  • Active bar license in good standing, with New York admission or willingness to obtain it.
  • Collaborative approach suited to a flat team structure; developer-side LIHTC experience and a portable book of business are valued.
  • Familiarity with HUD programs, GSE financing, or general partner and limited partner acquisitions is a plus.
