About the Role

Wood Mackenzie's trading customers rely on our forecasts and analytical models daily across power, gas, and oil markets. This role involves transforming that modelling estate into a portfolio of commercially packaged products, consumable by machines and analysts alike. The Director of Modelling Products will set the strategy, own the commercial investment case across commodities, and lead product leads for each market, ensuring a consistent methodological standard and driving the productization of analytical assets.

Responsibilities

  • Own the portfolio strategy, including which models to build, rebuild, retire, or acquire across power, gas, and oil.
  • Own the investment case and sequencing for modelling assets, and defend both.
  • Productize analytical assets, moving models and their features from research outputs into versioned products with documented methodology, reproducible outputs, and a defined release cycle.
  • Lead and develop modelling product leads, setting their objectives and ensuring a consistent methodological standard across them.
  • Establish and govern methodology standards for validation, change control, backtesting, and documentation.
  • Oversee commercial packaging and distribution of modelling assets through applications, APIs, and data platforms, collaborating with commercial teams on pricing.
  • Partner with central engineering and modelling functions, setting requirements, reviewing implementations, and maintaining quality standards without direct management of developers.

Requirements

  • A quantitative background with a degree in a mathematical, engineering, or scientific discipline.
  • Real experience with linear programming, econometric, or machine learning modelling.
  • Ability to discuss, validate, and challenge methodologies on their merits.
  • Ten or more years in product management, including ownership of a multi-product portfolio and investment tradeoffs.
  • Experience leading product managers, including senior ones.
  • A track record of productizing analytical or research assets.
  • Experience with machine consumable delivery methods such as APIs, streaming, data platforms, and workflow integration.
  • Sufficient market and commercial literacy to prioritize effectively.
  • Comfort operating without direct control, using clear specifications, credibility, and influence.
