About the Role
Palmer Food Services is seeking Retail Associates for the busy holiday season (October-January). This role involves providing excellent customer service, managing product displays, processing transactions, and ensuring a positive customer experience in a fast-paced retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with inquiries about fresh fish, meats, menu items, and grocery products, providing basic product knowledge.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by being polite, friendly, and attentive.
- Answer phone calls and assist with customer inquiries.
- Keep work areas clean, neat, and well stocked, including inventory for fresh fish, meat, cooked food, and grocery areas.
- Maintain a basic understanding of items sold to answer customer questions.
- Provide guidance on special or featured products and suggest cooking tips.
- Monitor inventory levels and restock as needed.
- Operate the cash register and process customer transactions (cash, check, credit cards, food stamps, gift cards, loyalty cards).
- Handle customer service matters like special orders, complaints, and refunds efficiently.
- Remain flexible and adjust break times during busy periods to prioritize customer service.
- Follow company handbook guidelines and understand company culture, goals, and objectives.
- Participate in cross-training in other areas as necessary.
- Communicate customer concerns, feedback, and needs to the Manager on Duty.
- Collaborate with management and associates to meet customer and business needs.
- Maintain a professional image with appropriate dress and grooming.
Requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills, friendly, outgoing personality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail store environment
- Ability to stand for extended hours (6-8 hours per shift)
- Frequent walking throughout the store, stockroom, and other areas
- Ability to lift and carry items ranging from 10 to 50 lbs regularly
- Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching
- Frequent reaching above shoulder height and stretching
- Frequent grasping of items and use of hands for operating equipment
- Ability to read product labels, shelf tags, and customer transactions
- Maintain awareness of surroundings for safety
- Clear communication with customers, coworkers, and managers
- Quick, coordinated hand movements for handling and packaging groceries or preparing food
