About the Role
The Associate Software Engineer/Developer will join the Order Management & Risk Technology team, supporting trading and risk-management capabilities for Schwab’s active trader clients. You will contribute to software solutions in a high-volume trading environment, working as part of an Agile Scrum team to develop, test, troubleshoot, and support secure and resilient Java applications. You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements, solve problems, and deliver quality solutions, while also investigating issues and contributing to production support.

- Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, and technology partners to understand requirements, solve problems, and deliver quality solutions.
- Investigate issues, contribute to production support, and continuously improve technology delivery.
Requirements
- Software development experience using Java gained through relevant coursework, technical training, certifications, internships, or professional experience.
- Software Development skills with the ability to develop, test, troubleshoot, and support applications.
- Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical issues and contribute practical solutions.
- Communication and Collaboration skills to work effectively with technical and business partners.
- Experience using an integrated development environment, preferably IntelliJ.
- Familiarity with source code repositories such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
- Experience using Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Generative AI tools to support software development activities.
- 1+ years of software development experience, including relevant internship experience.
- Experience developing applications using Java in an academic, internship, or professional setting.
- Experience or relevant knowledge of financial services or trading.
- Exposure to messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Solace, FTL, or Redpanda.
- Exposure to observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
- Exposure to Oracle RAC, Oracle Coherence, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or Bamboo.
- Learning Agility and Adaptability, with the ability to learn new technologies and apply new concepts to defined problems.
