About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Marketplaces to own our Amazon and third-party marketplace channels globally. This role will own the long-term planning, daily execution, and optimization of Amazon & additional marketplace performance, including paid advertising, SEO, forecasting, reporting, business operations, review generation, listing and account management, product detail page improvements, and brand and pricing integrity. This role will push us to think differently about our business and how AI-driven shopping is changing customer behavior. Our team moves fast, relies on data, and is always testing. You will be pivotal in helping Caraway become a generational brand with household-level awareness.

Responsibilities

  • P&L Ownership: Lead Amazon & Marketplaces for Caraway (globally). Set KPIs and targets, channel strategy, and drive sustainable revenue and margin growth.
  • Advertising and Traffic: Own in-platform marketing (PPC, DSP, video, OTT, Amazon Marketing Cloud) with a focus on organic ranking. Use Caraway’s email, SMS, influencer, affiliate, and PR channels to drive outside traffic to marketplaces. Judge ad spend on incrementality and contribution margin, and coordinate with paid social and search so we do not compete against ourselves.
  • Listings and Conversion: Oversee product setup and content (copy, imagery, keywords, attributes, A+ content) with internal and external teams. Own conversion strategy and testing.
  • Pricing, Assortment and Brand Protection: Set marketplace pricing and assortment so they support, not undercut, our DTC site and retail partners. Enforce MAP and monitor unauthorized sellers, hijackers, and counterfeits.
  • Operations and Account Health: Manage margin, account health, customer service experience, seller rating and case log management.
  • Inventory and FBA: Own FBA & FBM strategy, including inbound placement, inventory positioning, in-stock rates, and fee and freight costs. Work with Finance and Inventory Planning on demand forecasts, and update them as conditions change.
  • Product Launches: Plan and run on-time Amazon launches from start to finish, working with internal and external teams.
  • Growth: Work with Amazon directly on new opportunities to drive incremental growth (e.g. shows, exclusive color drops, bundles, etc).
  • Promotional Calendar: Own the promotional calendar (Deal of the Day, Lightning Deals, coupons, event deals) with Marketing, Finance, and Ecommerce to drive revenue and organic ranking.
  • Reviews: Build and run strategies to increase high-quality reviews and ratings. Monitor customer reviews and use what you learn to improve products, listings, and customer service.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Work with Caraway’s Data & Analytics team to report on key Amazon metrics, find insights, and turn them into improvements. Build dashboards that connect marketplace results to company-wide revenue and marketing measurement, and present results, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Market Awareness: Track competitors and marketplace changes, including algorithm updates, AI shopping features, fees, and policies.
  • Partners: Build strong working relationships with our Amazon agency, other agency and platform partners, Amazon contacts (such as CSMs), and internal teams (Strategy, Marketing, Finance, Retail, Ops). Decide over time which work should move in-house.
  • New Geographies and Marketplaces: Evaluate new channels and geographies to expand our marketplace presence and businesses: sequencing, localization, and operational set up.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building, leading, and managing the Amazon and Marketplace channel for an eight-figure plus Amazon business (bonus if that includes international marketplaces)
  • Deep, hands-on Amazon experience (Seller Central), with a P&L ownership track record, not just campaign management
  • Fluency across the full Amazon stack: search/SEO, content, retail media (Sponsored Ads, DSP, AMC), FBA/supply chain, and platform operations
  • Practical, hands-on approach to organic ranking and review strategy
  • Strong experience in inventory management, merchandising, listing optimization, margin management, and pricing
  • Experience protecting brand pricing and positioning in a marketplace environment, ideally for a premium or DTC-heritage physical product brand (housewares, kitchen, or adjacent categories a plus)
  • Good instincts for new product opportunities based on keyword research and customer insight
  • Keen eye for new product development opportunities based on keyword research and customer insights
  • Experience managing agencies and cross-functional stakeholders while staying hands-on with the day-to-day
  • Expertise with Amazon and marketplace tools such as Helium 10, SmartScout, Amazon Brand Analytics, and advertising management platforms
  • Proficiency with analytics tools such as Looker, Excel, SQL, or Tableau
  • A growth mindset with a desire to test new ideas to unlock new, outside-the-box opportunities
