About the Role

Serve as a senior client-facing leader blending deep health actuarial expertise, managed care knowledge, and strategic insight. Lead a team of actuaries and analysts delivering advanced analytics that shape risk strategies in the healthcare industry, including provider risk arrangements, health insurer reinsurance strategies, and employer stop loss. Help clients understand risk, how it shifts, and how to structure risk transfer and mitigation solutions aligned with strategic, operational, and financial objectives. Oversee traditional stop loss and reinsurance placement analyses. This role carries significant responsibility for client leadership, team development, innovation, and business growth in the US market.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead actuarial and analytics advisor for a portfolio of US-based health plan and healthcare provider clients.
  • Shape client risk strategies for commercial value-based care arrangements and CMS ACO programs, including upside/downside risk contracts, global budgets, and other alternative payment models.
  • Translate complex actuarial and financial analyses into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for C-suite and senior leadership audiences.
  • Lead executive-level client meetings and presentations, representing Aon as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the managed care and value-based care space.
  • Direct the design and review of models to project utilization, cost, and performance distributions under value-based contracts and ACO arrangements.
  • Oversee analyses of historical and prospective performance, including scenario and sensitivity testing around contract parameters, population characteristics, and care management interventions.
  • Quantify the financial impact of alternative program designs (e.g., shared savings vs. full risk, partial vs. full capitation, global budgets) and advise on contract structure selection.
  • Integrate quality, utilization, cost, and operational inputs to support clients in making informed, data-driven strategic decisions.
  • Lead the development of standardized frameworks, tools, and best practices for value-based care analytics across the practice.
  • Oversee health reinsurance and stop loss placement strategy.
  • Articulate cost-benefit tradeoffs of various risk transfer structures.
  • Develop innovative health risk solutions including emerging risks.
  • Provide technical negotiation support with reinsurers and carriers.
  • Lead and develop a team of junior actuaries and analysts, providing coaching, feedback, and career development guidance.
  • Set expectations and standards for actuarial rigor, documentation, and peer review, ensuring that all work meets Aon’s quality and professional standards.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects and workstreams, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery and a positive client experience.
  • Encourage experimentation with new methods, data sources, and tools, while maintaining appropriate controls and governance.
  • Play a key role in business development activities including pipeline management, go-to-market strategies, proposal development, and pitch meetings.
  • Contribute to and help shape Aon’s intellectual capital and solution portfolio in the managed care and value-based care domains, including participation in thought leadership, external speaking, and publishing as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive health actuarial experience at leading actuarial consulting firms, health insurers, provider-sponsored plans, or similar organizations.
  • Deep expertise in the US managed care environment, including commercial and government programs, with substantial hands-on experience in value-based payment models and/or ACO arrangements.
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex actuarial projects involving value-based contracts, shared savings/shared risk arrangements, capitation, and/or global budgets.
  • Strong experience with traditional health actuarial work, including pricing, reserving, trend analysis, and financial projections.
