About the Role

As the first finance hire, you will build Westmag's finance function from the ground up, reporting to the COO. You will own accounting, planning, cash, and reporting, establishing the necessary systems, controls, and processes for a fast-scaling manufacturer. This hands-on role involves closing the books and building financial models before team expansion, directly influencing how Westmag funds and scales production.

Responsibilities

  • Build Westmag's finance function from scratch, determining in-house operations versus outside partners.
  • Develop and maintain the company's financial model, annual budget, and rolling forecasts.
  • Manage cash and treasury, including banking relationships and short-term cash forecasting.
  • Oversee end-to-end accounting operations, including monthly close and GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Partner with leadership on fundraising, financing, investor updates, and board materials.
  • Select and implement scalable finance systems, integrating with manufacturing systems.
  • Support Production, Supply Chain, and Sales with business cases, pricing, and cost decisions.
  • Establish internal controls, approval policies, and spend management for scalability and audit readiness.
  • Oversee tax compliance, insurance, valuations, and cap table administration.
  • Track and report on grants, incentives, and government contracts.
  • Set up cost accounting for manufacturing, including inventory, standard costs, and unit costs.
  • Hire and develop the finance and accounting team as the company scales.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
  • 3+ years leading the finance function or serving as the senior finance person at a company.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing or hardware finance, including inventory accounting, standard costing, and COGS analysis.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, monthly close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build financial models, budgets, and cash forecasts from the ground up.
  • Experience implementing or scaling accounting and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero).
  • Comfort working hands-on in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results clearly.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
