About the Role
The IT Lead Developer, SAP Solutions will provide hands-on technical leadership for SAP custom development, enhancements, workflows, interfaces, forms, reports, conversions, and extensions supporting the Finance and Accounting Reinvention (FAR) program. This role will help deliver a modern SAP S/4HANA-based finance platform by leading Advanced Business Applications Programming (ABAP) development activities across design, build, testing, deployment, cutover, hyper care, and transition to support. The ideal candidate will bring strong SAP S/4HANA technical experience, deep ABAP development expertise, practical understanding of finance business processes, and the ability to lead technical teams through complex enterprise transformation delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead SAP ABAP development activities for the FAR program across SAP S/4HANA Finance, related SAP products, and impacted enterprise systems.
- Provide technical leadership for custom reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, workflows, APIs, CDS views, OData services, Fiori extensions, user exits, BADIs, enhancement spots, and other SAP development objects.
- Partner with SAP functional leads, solution architects, and business process teams to translate validated requirements and functional specifications into high-quality technical designs.
- Promote clean-core design principles by challenging unnecessary customization, recommending standard SAP capabilities, and using side-by-side or extensibility patterns where appropriate.
- Review and approve technical specifications, development estimates, code quality, unit test results, peer reviews, and transport readiness.
- Lead development delivery across program phases, including solution confirmation, design, build, integration testing, system testing, user acceptance testing support, cutover, go-live, hyper care, and production stabilization.
- Coordinate ABAP development work across internal teams, system integrator resources, offshore teams, and other vendors to ensure scope, quality, schedule, and accountability are maintained.
- Support integration design and development with SAP BTP Integration Suite, SAP APIs, middleware, retained applications, and finance-related edge systems such as Maximo, Power Plan, Workday, Workforce, Workiva, banking platforms, tax solutions, and reporting platforms.
- Ensure SAP development work supports security, role design, segregation of duties, SOX controls, auditability, data privacy, performance, resiliency, and long-term operational supportability.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical defects across SAP custom objects, enhancements, interfaces, data conversion programs, workflows, and performance issues.
- Establish and enforce development standards, naming conventions, documentation expectations, code review practices, transport management processes, and release governance.
- Partner with testing teams to define technical test scope, resolve defects, support regression testing, and ensure development objects meet performance and quality expectations.
- Support data conversion and migration activities by designing and validating ABAP programs, data extracts, transformations, load utilities, reconciliation reports, and exception handling capabilities.
- Mentor developers and technical analysts, helping build internal SAP development capability and knowledge transfer for post-go-live operations.
- Provide clear status reporting on development progress, risks, dependencies, issues, and decisions for program leadership and Agile Release Train governance.
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Requirements
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance, SAP RISE, SAP BTP, SAP Fiori, SAP Integration Suite, SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, or SAP Group Reporting.
- Experience in utility, energy, regulated industry, or large enterprise environments with complex financial, regulatory, and operational integration needs.
- Understanding of SOX controls, audit requirements, financial governance, cybersecurity standards, role-based security, and segregation of duties.
- Experience with SAP clean-core extensibility patterns, side-by-side extensions, custom code remediation, simplification checks, and SAP upgrade readiness.
- Experience supporting integrations with systems such as Maximo, PowerPlan, Workday, Workforce, Ariba, Workiva, banking platforms, tax systems, planning tools, or enterprise data platforms.
- Experience leading offshore or blended delivery teams and coordinating work across system integrators, vendors, internal IT teams, and business stakeholders.
- Eight (8) to ten (10) years of hands-on SAP technical experience, with strong expertise in ABAP development and SAP enterprise implementations.
- Proven experience leading SAP ABAP development teams on large-scale SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, ERP modernization, or finance transformation programs.
- Strong knowledge of SAP S/4HANA development concepts, including CDS views, AMDP, OData services, RAP concepts, Fiori extensions, APIs, enhancement frameworks, and performance optimization.
- Deep experience with ABAP objects, reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, workflows, Web Dynpro, Adobe Forms, Smart Forms, IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, BADIs, user exits, and enhancement spots.
- Experience supporting SAP Finance and Accounting processes such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Accounting, Controlling, Project Systems, Treasury, Tax, Financial Close, and Reporting.
- Experience working with technical integration patterns involving middleware, SAP BTP Integration Suite, APIs, batch processing, file-based interfaces, event-driven integration, and third-party systems.
- Strong understanding of SAP development lifecycle management, transport management, technical documentation, coding standards, peer reviews, unit testing, regression testing, and production support.
- Experience with data migration and conversion development, including data extraction, transformation, load support, validation, reconciliation, and error handling.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex SAP technical issues involving custom code, interfaces, performance bottlenecks, authorizations, workflows, and cross-system dependencies.
- Experience working in Agile, SAFe, hybrid, or large program delivery models with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, SAP Cloud ALM, or similar lifecycle management tools.
- Work includes researching, analyzing, writing and public speaking.
