About the Role
The US Sun is seeking an experienced Photo Editor for a six-month fixed-term contract to cover a team member on family leave. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make an immediate impact in a fast-growing digital news operation, playing a key role in delivering compelling visual storytelling across various coverage areas.
Responsibilities
- Source, select, and edit compelling imagery for breaking news and digital stories.
- Respond quickly and confidently to developing news stories and tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with reporters and editors to deliver impactful visual storytelling.
- Research image rights, manage licensing, and ensure compliance with US copyright law.
- Use Photoshop to crop, edit, and optimize images for digital publication.
- Identify exclusive imagery and maintain relationships with picture agencies and photographers.
- Ensure accuracy, appropriate image usage, and high editorial standards.
Requirements
- Proven photo editing or picture desk experience, ideally within a busy digital newsroom or news agency.
- Exceptional eye for detail and strong editorial judgment.
- Confident Photoshop skills and experience with digital image management systems.
- Ability to design compelling, visually engaging video thumbnails using Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of imagery, composition, and creative techniques that drive clicks and engagement across digital platforms.
- Good working knowledge of US copyright law, image licensing, usage rights, and their practical application.
- Ability to source, verify, and deliver images quickly and accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and a genuine passion for news.
