About the Role

AMD is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) Silicon Design Engineer to lead research in emerging formal verification domains, including security, safety, low-power, and architect-level formal verification. This role involves exploring the feasibility of formalizing ISA and memory models for GFXIP design, defining long-term strategies for formal verification expansion, and steering the technical roadmap. The engineer will develop cutting-edge methodologies to cover entire graphics designs, scale formal verification to large and critical designs for bug-free quality, and expand adoption across the IP development lifecycle. Responsibilities include resolving complex convergence issues using advanced techniques, defining and driving best-in-class formal verification infrastructure, and contributing to the research, design, development, and testing of electronic components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research group for emerging formal verification domains like security, safety, low-power, architect-level formal verification, etc.
  • Explore the feasibility of formalizing ISA and memory model for GFXIP design.
  • Define long-term strategy for formal verification expansion and steer the technical roadmap.
  • Develop cutting-edge formal verification methodology to cover the whole graphics design, including both datapath and control logic.
  • Scale formal verification to big and critical design for bug-free quality.
  • Expand formal verification adoption to the whole IP development life cycle.
  • Resolve challenging convergence issue through world-class formal verification techniques like induction, reduction, abstraction, etc.
  • Define and drive the best-in-class formal verification infrastructure to improve formal verification productivity.
  • Research, design, develop, and/or test electronic components and systems for semiconductor and related device manufacturing, employing knowledge of electronic theory.
  • Lead definition, design, verification, and/or documentation for ASIC development.
  • Determine architecture design, logic design, and/or system simulation.
  • Define module interfaces/formats for simulation.
  • Lead the development of multidimensional designs involving the layout of complex integrated circuits.
  • Evaluate all aspects of the process flow from high-level designs to synthesis, place and route, and timing and power use.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including engineers to develop ASIC/layout design, working on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Drive projects or processes of significant technical importance.
  • Exercise independent judgment to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results with little to no supervision.
  • Utilize unique knowledge of computers and electronics, including circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, design techniques, tools, and principles to contribute to the development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles, best practices, and technologies to the design, development, and testing of various AMD products.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field and four (4) years of experience in job offered or closely related engineering role.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field and six (6) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or closely related engineering role.

Skills

  • Formal verification of algorithms, engines, and use cases
  • SystemVerilog Assertion and abstract model development
  • Using formal verification tool from both Academy and EDA vendors (JasperGold, VC Formal, Murphi, or theorem prover)
  • Delivering high-quality verification for modern, large-scale processor design, such as CPU, GPU, or AI processor
