About the Role
Hands-on Technical Lead to lead the technical delivery of DEX Sustainability, combining strong technical leadership with the ability to work directly at the detailed technical level when required. The role will translate operational issues, technical debt and resilience risks into practical solutions, while being prepared to roll up their sleeves to investigate problems, challenge technical assumptions, troubleshoot issues and work alongside engineering, infrastructure, data and support teams to drive issues through to resolution. This is not a purely architecture, advisory or oversight role.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across the DEX Sustainability scope.
- Lead technical investigation and resolution of complex platform stability, performance and resilience issues.
- Work directly with engineers, developers, infrastructure, database and support teams to diagnose issues and validate solutions.
- Be prepared to get into the technical detail, interrogating logs, configurations, data flows, environments, database/platform behaviour and other evidence where required.
- Lead root-cause analysis of recurring incidents, technical constraints and systemic issues, ensuring fixes address underlying causes rather than symptoms.
- Translate operational challenges and technical debt into clear technical requirements and deliverable remediation.
- Define and manage Non-Functional Requirements covering resilience, availability, performance, recoverability, capacity and supportability.
- Assess DEX application, infrastructure, database, environment and integration dependencies to identify vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities.
- Shape technical solutions and challenge proposed designs where they do not adequately address operational or sustainability requirements.
- Lead technical aspects of testing, release, deployment, implementation and production readiness.
- Troubleshoot implementation and production issues and ensure appropriate technical expertise is mobilised to resolve them.
- Ensure solutions are sustainable, supportable and appropriate for the DEX operating environment.
- Work closely with the DEX Sustainability PM to convert technical priorities, dependencies and risks into an executable delivery plan.
- Communicate complex technical issues, options, trade-offs and risks clearly to senior technical and business stakeholders.
- Support stabilisation following implementation and transition into BAU.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on technical background within complex enterprise application environments.
- Proven ability to personally investigate and troubleshoot complex technical and production issues.
- Strong technical leadership, with the ability to move between high-level solution direction and detailed technical problem-solving.
- Strong understanding of operational stability, service performance, incident and problem management.
- Good infrastructure knowledge including environments, resilience, release management and change control.
- Experience working across applications, databases/data, infrastructure, integrations and operational support.
- Strong root-cause analysis and structured technical problem-solving capability.
- Experience defining and delivering Non-Functional Requirements.
- Experience delivering and supporting technology solutions through production implementation.
- Experience with operational readiness, production deployment and service transition.
- Understanding of cloud, SaaS, data and digital platforms.
- Ability to identify technical risks and convert them into practical remediation actions.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain detailed technical issues in clear business language.
- Degree or equivalent technical experience.
- 10+ years' experience within complex enterprise technology environments.
- Legacy platform/mainframe and database awareness.
- Experience of operational transformation, platform stabilisation and technical debt reduction.
- Data platform and data management experience.
- Resilience, disaster recovery and business continuity experience.
- ETRM and trading technology experience.
- Experience supporting business-critical production platforms.
- Experience working across legacy and modern technology architectures.
- Strong influencing and facilitation skills.
