About the Role
This role is responsible for procuring merchandise for resale and managing inventory. You will negotiate with vendors for optimal pricing and terms, analyze product on hand and projected sales, and manage purchase orders to maintain product mix and inventory levels. The position also involves monitoring vendor shipments, performing cycle counts, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining market intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Procure merchandise for resale and manage inventory.
- Negotiate with vendors for optimal pricing, delivery, and terms.
- Analyze product on hand and projected product sales.
- Create, process, and expedite vendor Purchase Orders.
- Monitor vendor shipments and receipt of merchandise.
- Meet or exceed Profit Center targets for fill rates, in-stock rates, inventory turns, and slow-moving/overstock inventory.
- Perform cycle counts and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Perform file maintenance for products, buy lines, price, and buy matrices.
- Negotiate and maintain profitable partnerships with suppliers and vendors.
- Monitor customer returned goods and vendor merchandise returns.
- Maintain market intelligence and report changes in pricing and potential problem areas.
- Complete required safety and compliance training.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1+ years of purchasing and inventory control experience.
- Wholesale distribution experience preferred.
- Knowledge of products sold in the Profit Center preferred.
- Effectively use Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to analyze sales and procurement data and understand market trends.
- Excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain influential relationships with vendors, customers, and co-workers.
- Energetic, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Ability to learn and operate computer systems for purchasing and inventory control.
- Read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
