About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across our platform, focusing on architecture, reliability, performance, observability, and security. You will mentor the team and help design shared services and reusable patterns, staying connected to the firmware, hardware, and systems that power our platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead architectural decisions to enhance reliability, performance, observability, security, and operational excellence across the product ecosystem.
- Serve as the engineering lead for projects, managing them from ideation through implementation and rollout.
- Architect web, cloud, and device-integrated solutions for our distributed Linux fleet, ensuring a unified product experience.
- Design state machines, device controls, command/acknowledgment flows, and fail-safe mechanisms for connected devices.
- Build reliable, fault-tolerant systems capable of handling connectivity loss, retries, device failures, and offline operation.
- Conduct design and code reviews.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and apply them to solve complex business and technical challenges.
- Mentor engineers and technical leads, promoting the adoption of architectural best practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues spanning cloud, network, gateway, and device layers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in software architecture and distributed systems design at scale.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or Go.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, networking, concurrency, Linux, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience managing and troubleshooting distributed fleets of Linux machines.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud, network, gateway, and device layers.
- Excellent technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
