About the Role

SpyCloud is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering to lead its core platform team. This role involves building and running the internal platform that product engineering teams use, enabling them to focus on core product development rather than infrastructure management. The position requires treating the platform as a product, driving adoption, and reducing cognitive load for internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and grow a team of platform engineers, coaching them toward product thinking and genuine empathy for the developers they serve.
  • Own the platform vision and roadmap as a product, prioritizing through direct discovery with stream-aligned teams and being explicit about what the platform won’t do.
  • Publish and maintain a team charter defining what the platform offers as a service, its SLOs, its support model, and how teams engage with you.
  • Measure success by pairing DORA metrics with developer satisfaction, golden path adoption, and self-service ratios, and use the results to drive priorities.
  • Run the platform as a dependable product with SLOs, versioning, and on-call, and lead platform-wide migrations so the platform team carries the burden instead of every product team.
  • Evaluate, roll out, and measure AI-assisted development tools across engineering.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on work in platform engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading engineering teams (4+ individuals), ideally platform, engineering, or developer tooling teams.
  • A track record of running an internal platform as a product: you can explain who your internal customers were, what you chose not to build, and how adoption and satisfaction changed.
  • Experience operating highly available systems in AWS, with working knowledge of containers, infrastructure as code (Terraform), CI/CD, and observability.
  • Strong technical judgment and a hands-on approach, you make sound architectural and build-vs-buy decisions and aren’t afraid to get into the code when needed.
  • Experience using DORA metrics, SLOs, and developer experience surveys to set priorities and communicate platform value.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to influence without authority, including leading cross-team migrations with teams you don’t manage.
