About the Role

The Implementation Consultant I Internship is a 12-week summer experience designed to provide a real look into a career in HCM implementation and client consulting. You will learn how Implementation Consultants manage client projects, gather requirements, configure and validate solutions, analyze data, and support clients through change. Through structured training and supervised hands-on experience, you will build the technical, analytical, communication, and project-management skills needed for a potential full-time opportunity after graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist with client implementation activities, including meeting preparation, discovery sessions, project updates, follow-up documentation, and implementation planning.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and internal partners, under supervision, to gather information, provide approved updates, clarify routine requirements, and document next steps.
  • Support the collection, organization, mapping, and validation of client data to help prepare accurate and complete information for conversion into Paylocity HCM solutions.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to review data, identify discrepancies, perform basic analysis, and support balancing and quality-control activities.
  • Assist with documenting client business requirements related to payroll, HR, time and labor, and other assigned HCM functions.
  • Participate in guided system setup and configuration-review activities to learn how client requirements are translated into Paylocity solutions.
  • Support testing and validation by comparing expected results with system output, documenting variances, and escalating questions to the assigned Implementation Consultant or mentor.
  • Accurately maintain project notes, action items, client requirements, and status updates in designated company systems.
  • Collaborate with Implementation Consultants and cross-functional partners, including Sales, product subject matter experts, project managers, and support teams, to understand ownership and assist with timely issue resolution.
  • Research routine implementation questions using approved resources and escalate complex or high-risk concerns to the assigned Implementation Consultant or leader.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, workshops, job shadows, and feedback discussions; apply coaching to improve technical knowledge, communication, organization, and client readiness.
  • Complete an internship project that addresses an Implementation business need, analyzes findings, and recommends practical improvements.

Requirements

  • Active enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program with an anticipated graduation between December 2027 and Spring 2028.
  • Preference for Business, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Communications, Liberal Arts, or related majors with an interest in client consulting, HCM technology, payroll, or project management.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Prior customer service, client-facing, leadership, project, internship, or team-based experience preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; experience with formulas, PivotTables, data manipulation, or analysis is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-centric and professional approach.
  • Strong time management, organization, critical thinking, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, process adherence, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, adapt in a fast-paced environment, accept feedback, and collaborate effectively in a team setting.
