About the Role

M7 Health is seeking a Tech Lead to spearhead the Platform team, responsible for the core product experience used by nurses and clinical leaders daily. This role involves building scheduling workflows, managing open shifts, modeling staffing structures, and overseeing hospital-wide staffing operations. It's a hands-on position, with approximately 70% dedicated to engineering tasks like coding, system design, and debugging, and 30% focused on leadership, setting technical direction, and improving quality. The Tech Lead will report to the Head of Engineering and manage the Platform squad's technical direction, code reviews, and delivery, with potential for direct reports as the team expands.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Platform squad
  • Run the day-to-day of the team: setting technical direction, owning delivery, and growing the engineers on it
  • Stay in the codebase. Write and review production code, design systems, and take on the problems nobody else wants
  • Strengthen the engineering practices and quality bar for a product where a scheduling bug shows up as a short-staffed unit
  • Grow into formal people management as the squad scales, including career development and performance for the engineers on your team
  • Build the core product experience
  • Ship high-visibility features that run hospital operations nationwide, from scheduling and shift management to open shift filling and system-wide staffing
  • Evolve the backend and data model as M7 moves from unit-level scheduling to health-system scale, and into new clinical settings
  • Partner across the company
  • Work with product managers and healthcare operations experts to turn messy clinical realities into software a nurse manager can use
  • Bring customer problems back into technical direction rather than waiting for requirements to arrive fully formed
  • Build AI into how your team works, both in the product and in how the team ships

Requirements

  • 6+ years building and operating production software, with a track record of owning systems end-to-end
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers, whether as a tech lead, team lead, or senior engineer
  • Comfortable across the full stack
  • Ability to think like a user and make tradeoffs that favor usability and real-world impact
  • Ability to turn ideas into software and iterate fast on feedback
  • Ability to balance own output against unblocking the team
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and work well with non-technical people
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, focus on what moves the needle, and contribute past job description
  • Fluent with AI coding assistants in daily workflow
  • Interest in building AI-assisted tooling into team operations
  • Alignment with M7's values: urgency, relentless curiosity, kindness, and high standard of craft
  • Passion for the mission of making health systems stronger
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
