About the Role
Support a major client project by designing performant SQL assets and data models, tuning application queries, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a governed environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize SQL objects including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and ETL/ELT logic.
- Develop logical and physical data models and maintain ERDs and data dictionaries.
- Tune SQL performance through indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Implement validation rules, constraints, and reconciliation checks for data quality.
- Contribute to ETL/ELT pipelines and environment promotion using standardized patterns.
- Utilize version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows for database changes.
- Collaborate with platform/DevOps teams on capacity management, monitoring, and backup/recovery strategies.
- Work within a structured delivery approach including story backlog, layered delivery model, and reusable components.
- Apply consulting-grade practices such as documentation, peer reviews, test execution, and quality checkpoints.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, planning, and retrospectives.
- Partner with BAs, product owners, and downstream consumers to translate requirements into robust SQL designs.
- Support UAT, investigate defects, and resolve logic issues.
- Produce runbooks, knowledge-transfer materials, and adhere to governance/security standards.
Requirements
- Advanced SQL development experience (T-SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent) with strong performance-tuning skills.
- Strong data modeling knowledge (star/snowflake schemas, indexing strategies, optimization).
- Experience in structured consulting or delivery environments with clear processes and standards.
- Understanding of CI/CD practices, version control (Git), and database change management.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- A valid working permit for the UK is mandatory.
