About the Role

On the Kipu Quantum Hub, customers build quantum solutions for optimization and machine learning and run them on real hardware. AI agents are at the heart of our product, assisting users in determining the value of quantum computing and engineering quantum-classical solutions. We seek an experienced software engineer with expertise in agentic AI to build cloud-native systems end-to-end, focusing on core agents and their integration into our development processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run backend services, APIs, and frontends of the Kipu Quantum Hub in a cloud-native architecture on Kubernetes.
  • Make architecture decisions for distributed systems, including microservices, asynchronous messaging, and API design.
  • Ship small changes to production frequently and safely, with good automated tests and CI/CD.
  • Develop product agents, ensuring reliability through evals, monitoring, and cost control.
  • Build interfaces (e.g., MCP) for LLMs to interact safely with APIs, quantum services, and hardware backends.
  • Help make AI coding agents a productive and reliable part of the team's software development process.
  • Collaborate with quantum physicists and data scientists, fostering team growth through pairing and feedback.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally building cloud-based products.
  • A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong skills in at least one of Java, TypeScript, or Python, with willingness to work across the stack.
  • Experience with containers and a major cloud provider; Kubernetes is a plus.
  • A good understanding of software architecture and API design.
  • A strong focus on code quality, automated testing, and continuous delivery.
  • Excellent English and German skills.
  • Experience building LLM-based applications, for example with RAG, tool use, or an agent framework.
  • Experience using AI coding agents in daily work and understanding their capabilities and limitations.
  • Experience with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a plus.
  • Experience evaluating LLM or agent quality is a plus.
  • Some exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech and research environments is a plus.
