About the Role

The Firm is a UK property consultancy that helps clients unlock value from complexity. Our purpose is to bring clarity, creativity, and conviction to the complex. We are experts who collaborate to create value, not just preserve it and our team is built for impact, not oversight. We specialise in high-value, complex assets across the property lifecycle, where political, technical or commercial challenges demand a joined-up approach. This role will provide day-to-day support across business rates administration, client service delivery, billing authority liaison, liability management and internal reporting. The successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality delivery for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual KPIs, ensuring deadlines, reporting requirements and agreed service standards are met.
  • Process and review business rates and BID demands, ensuring accurate recording of liabilities, reliefs and billing information.
  • Liaise with billing authorities on liabilities, rate-related queries, disputes and notices.
  • Maintain accurate business rates databases, client records and quality control systems, including updating where necessary.
  • Assist with funding requests, payment schedules, remittance information, refund tracking and reconciliation exercises to support accurate client payment management.
  • Undertake data cleansing, reconciliation and reporting exercises using Microsoft Excel, Teams and internal systems to support accurate client reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance to junior colleagues on business rates processes, billing authority queries, relief applications, liability issues and problem resolution.
  • Contribute to team training, process improvement and monthly and quarterly team meetings, sharing knowledge and helping to maintain consistent standards across the team.
  • Help identify savings opportunities, compliance risks, process improvements and value-add services for clients.
  • Attend occasional client site visits or meetings where required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years experience in business rates, local authority revenues, property administration, client accounting or a related property finance environment would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of business rates demands, billing authority processes, liability records, reliefs, exemptions, credits and refunds.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to review financial and property data accurately.
  • Confident communicator, able to deal professionally with clients, billing authorities, subcontractors and internal colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain accurate records across multiple client instructions.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams and case management systems.
  • Ability to identify issues, escalate risks appropriately and follow matters through to conclusion.
  • A proactive, collaborative and client-focused approach, with a willingness to learn and contribute to the continued development of the Rate Management Team.
  • The role requires a methodical, responsive and professional approach.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to manage operational detail while understanding the wider importance of accurate business rates management, risk control, client service and commercial delivery within Montagu Evans’ Rating division.
