About the Role
Lead a highly collaborative development team, shaping engineering strategy, supporting team development, and guiding a new software product through launch and beyond. This role is ideal for a supportive, commercially minded engineering leader with a software development background.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a dev team of 10, working closely with existing team leaders
- Shape engineering strategy to support both commercial product development and internal business requirements
- Guide the continued development of a new commercial software product, helping establish its roadmap and support its growth
- Work with stakeholders to prioritise features and improvements that deliver value to customers and the business
- Oversee the development of internal applications, dashboards and tools that improve how teams work across the organisation
- Provide technical direction across software architecture, development practices and delivery
- Support team development through coaching, clear objectives and constructive feedback
- Balance product opportunities, internal projects and technical improvements, ensuring realistic priorities and effective use of resources
- Maintain a collaborative engineering culture with a strong emphasis on quality, communication and shared ownership
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Head of Engineering or in an equivalent senior engineering leadership position
- Strong software development background, with an understanding of both front-end and back-end engineering
- Degree educated in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or similar
- Excellent people management skills, with a supportive, approachable leadership style and the ability to inspire and develop others
- Experience leading engineering delivery for a commercial software product, balancing customer needs, business priorities and technical considerations
- Experience contributing to product direction, roadmaps and prioritisation alongside business stakeholders
- Ability to set engineering strategy and translate this into clear, achievable plans
- Strong technical judgement, with the ability to guide architectural decisions and support developers with technical challenges
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and understand their requirements
- A collaborative approach, with the confidence to lead change while building trust and maintaining a positive team culture
