About the Role
The Head of Regulatory Compliance (RC), Japan is accountable for all regulatory compliance matters in the country. This role leads the identification, assessment, management, monitoring, and mitigation of RC risk, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements for HSBC Japan and operating within risk appetite.
Responsibilities
- Leads and directs the stewardship of Japan for RC matters, partnering with the business to support growth while maintaining risk and compliance management discipline.
- Ensures effective relationships with Japan regulators.
- Represents the RC agenda at Japan governance forums, reporting on progress and issues related to operational effectiveness of policies, processes, systems, and controls.
- Leads the Japan RC team, establishing principles and objectives, managing budget, costs, headcount, and resources to ensure team effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
Requirements
- Experienced compliance professional with leadership tenure, preferably in a global financial services organization.
- Good knowledge and management of legal, regulatory, and compliance obligations.
- Good working knowledge of wholesale banking businesses, products, and services for corporate and institutional clients.
- Experience in building, developing, and leading a sizeable team.
- Experience in dealing with regulatory matters and interacting confidently with regulators.
- Proven ability to proactively and constructively engage with senior management, regulators, auditors, and examiners.
- Native level Japanese and Business level English language proficiency required.
