About the Role
LightSpeed Japan Studio is a game development studio dedicated to crafting original AAA action game titles for global audiences. Led by industry veteran Hideaki Itsuno, the studio operates across two locations in Tokyo and Osaka. The studio offers a flexible and inclusive work environment and actively welcomes game creators who are full of talent and passion for pushing the boundaries of game development.
Responsibilities
- Create and design visual effects used in combat, environments, UI, and other in-game scenarios.
- Develop realistic effects such as water, fire, smoke, and explosions to enhance game immersion.
- Combine character and object animations with visual effects to ensure consistent and cohesive visuals.
- Optimize effects for in-game performance without compromising visual quality.
- Prepare technical documentation for created effects to facilitate team communication and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Experience creating VFX using Unreal Engine (AAA or AA projects preferred)
- Proficiency with VFX tools, including Houdini, Embergen (for fluid simulations), Maya or 3ds Max (for effect models), and After Effects or Substance Designer (for texture creation)
- Strong skills in producing photorealistic effects
- Experience developing AAA action games is a plus
- Excellent artistic sense, creativity, and attention to detail
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

- Negotiable (with raises/bonuses)
- Includes fixed overtime pay for 35 hours/month for general employees or 10 hours/month for management.
