About the Role
As Lead People & Culture at Pets Deli, you will lead our People & Culture team and act as a sparring partner for our management and leadership team. You will ensure we find, develop, inspire, and retain the right talent, and that our culture code is lived daily. You will also be hands-on, conducting interviews, supporting discussions, and managing processes until they function effectively in daily operations. This is an opportunity to shape People & Culture at Pets Deli during a growth phase as part of the VAFO Group and to grow with the role, supporting the entire employee lifecycle from recruiting to offboarding across offices, fulfillment, and stores.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of three people (HR Operations and Legal, Payroll and HR Admin, Events, Onboarding and Office), distribute tasks, and work operationally.
- Develop and implement our recruiting process: job postings, active sourcing, interviews, cases, and offers.
- Act as a sparring partner for Heads on hiring: sharpen role profiles and prepare interviews.
- Ensure all employees receive regular performance reviews: manage timelines, follow up with Heads, and ensure quality.
- Utilize AI in People & Culture for sourcing, interview preparation, onboarding, and performance reviews, and develop tools with your team.
- Maintain headcount overview and personnel budget, reconciling regularly with Finance.
- Embed our culture code in recruiting, onboarding, and feedback discussions.
- Ensure good onboarding, organize employee surveys and pulse checks, and implement resulting measures.
- Regularly report to management on headcount, costs, fluctuation, and time-to-hire with data.
Requirements
- Experience as an HR Business Partner in a larger company or several years of experience in recruiting, ideally in a fast-growing company or recruiting agency.
- Strong business acumen: understand how a company makes money and approach People topics from a business perspective. E-commerce or consumer goods experience is a plus.
- Solid HR experience: experience with performance discussions and HR processes, and knowledge of basic labor law.
- Initial leadership experience and a desire to grow as a leader.
- Strong execution skills and willingness to perform operational tasks. Corporate background is welcome if hands-on approach is preferred.
- Good standing with teams in the office, warehouse, and stores. Experience with commercial teams is a plus.
- Professional demeanor with colleagues, candidates, and management, handling confidential matters discreetly.
- AI affinity: comfortable using tools like Claude or ChatGPT in daily work and eager to improve People processes with them.
- Very good German and good English language skills.
