About the Role

Rabobank’s Technology team delivers secure, reliable, and scalable technology for our Australian & New Zealand business. We are hiring a Lead Software Engineer to join our Online Banking Squad, offering the chance to stay close to the code while influencing engineering direction. You will work across React, Java Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices to shape digital banking platforms.

Responsibilities

Lead technical delivery across online banking applications, APIs, and microservices.
Design, develop, test, debug, and remediate software.
Translate architecture and business requirements into practical, maintainable engineering solutions.
Provide technical direction, conduct design and code reviews, and coach engineers.
Champion clean code, automated testing, CI/CD, and secure engineering practices.
Work with Azure DevOps pipelines and support deployment and release readiness.
Design for performance, scalability, security, resilience, accessibility, and observability.
Identify technical debt, dependencies, and opportunities to improve platform reliability.
Support production services, including incident investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution.
Participate in an on-call arrangement when required.

Requirements

Experienced engineer capable of writing code, solving complex technical problems, and mentoring other engineers.
10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years at a Senior/Lead level.
Strong commercial experience with React and Java Spring Boot.
Experience with REST APIs, microservices, Kafka, and event-driven architecture.
Strong CI/CD, Azure DevOps, and cloud deployment experience.
Knowledge of secure coding, SAST, vulnerability, and dependency management.
Experience supporting business-critical applications in production.
Experience using modern AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) for development, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation.
Understanding of modern AI engineering concepts (LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, evaluation, responsible AI).
Ability to coach engineers and lead technical delivery without formal people-management responsibility.
