About the Role

As a Commercial Finance Lead, you will own finance across the business, from day-to-day financial control to commercial decision support for sales and leadership teams. This is a broad, business-partnering role suited to someone comfortable with both financial details and strategic discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Run the day-to-day finance operation: invoicing, payment runs, supplier set-up, and managing the external bookkeeper.
  • Own the integrity of financial numbers in Xero and ensure timely, accurate billing aligned with project delivery.
  • Own the working capital cycle end-to-end, including chasing outstanding invoices and managing supplier relationships and payment terms.
  • Build and maintain a reliable 13-week rolling cash flow forecast, linked to the live pipeline, project delivery, and supplier commitments.
  • Track revenue recognition against project milestones, monitor project margins, manage WIP and accruals, and ensure accurate project billing and reporting.
  • Partner with the sales team to provide reporting, margin analysis, and decision support for profitable work.
  • Own pipeline reporting, deal-level margin reviews, and assist with pricing on new opportunities.
  • Track performance against quarterly targets, flag risks, and provide clear insights on revenue, margin, and capacity.
  • Build and maintain weekly operational reporting.
  • Act as a commercial sounding board for the leadership team, providing financial inputs for management meetings and strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or strong QBE with relevant experience.
  • Background in a creative, influencer, or social agency (or wider professional services) with understanding of project margins, talent/production costs, and campaign-led billing.
  • Strong commercial instincts; ability to interpret P&L, cash flow, and sales pipeline.
  • Hands-on experience running credit control and managing a 13-week cash flow in a working-capital-sensitive business.
  • Comfortable operating as the sole finance professional, demonstrating proactivity, organization, and self-prioritization.
  • Direct, plain-spoken communication style, adaptable to both detailed and strategic conversations.
  • Claude-savvy and AI-curious, with a desire to use AI tools to enhance efficiency and reimagine finance functions.
  • Experience building workflows, drafting models, or streamlining reporting using AI is a plus.
  • Confident in using Xero, HubSpot (or similar CRM), and Excel.
