About the Role

K1 Industries is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design and integration of medium-voltage generation systems. This role involves hands-on work from initial analysis to field commissioning, ensuring reliable operation of turbine-driven generators for both utility-tied and off-grid applications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical design for generation projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Carry design decisions through to working hardware.
  • Tune and integrate generation equipment for utility-tied and islanded operation.
  • Work through system response and stability across equipment vendors.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to translate facility constraints, codes, and standards into effective electrical designs.
  • Make clear technical recommendations, explaining constraints, trade-offs, and reasoning.
  • Design generation systems that innovate beyond standard market offerings using first-principles judgment.
  • Ensure projects progress efficiently from design to operation to meet company objectives.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated theoretical depth and practical experience in transient and steady-state load analysis and electrical modeling.
  • Experience with protection and coordination studies.
  • Experience with short-circuit analysis.
  • Experience with insulation coordination studies.
  • Experience with grounding studies.
  • Experience with generator and engine tuning across multiple vendors.
  • Experience with off-grid system stability.
  • Experience with grid-tied systems in regulated and deregulated gas and electric markets.
  • Experience with vendor-specific configuration and programming of protective relays, engine governor controls, and synchronization equipment.
  • Experience with medium-voltage switchgear and paralleling systems.
  • Experience applying codes, standards, and industry practice to real facility constraints.
  • Experience working with clients to resolve trade-offs.
