About the Role
Abundance is building Abundance. We’re hiring a founding engineer to build with us. You’ll work directly with the founding team, shape our technical direction, and own critical systems from the first prototype through production and deployment in the field. We’re looking for a strong generalist with depth in data, infrastructure, robotics, or hardware, and the curiosity and judgment to work across all of them.
Responsibilities
- Build across the stack, shipping backend services, operator applications, internal tools, and other systems.
- Turn real-world activity into useful data by owning pipelines for capture, ingestion, processing, quality evaluation, and delivery.
- Ensure infrastructure reliability by moving large volumes of data across devices, sites, and cloud systems, owning performance, reliability, observability, and cost.
- Connect hardware and software by working with cameras, sensors, and collection devices, diagnosing failures, and improving performance in real conditions.
- Travel and deploy solutions, working alongside operators and partners globally, launching deployments, solving on-site problems, and integrating lessons learned.
- Contribute to company building by making decisions on architecture, priorities, hiring, and work processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and shipping complex systems, with the ability to articulate design decisions and tradeoffs.
- Strong engineering fundamentals enabling the transformation of ambiguous problems into working systems.
- Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar domains and take ownership proactively.
- A commitment to quality, including attention to post-deployment details.
- Clear communication, high integrity, and a balanced ego.
- Desire to fully commit to company building, thriving in a demanding pace with substantial responsibility.
- Willingness to travel internationally and work where needed.
- Experience with large datasets, video pipelines, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, robotics, embedded systems, or hardware integration is valuable.
- Depth in one or more technical areas combined with broad engineering ability.
