About the Role
East Side House Settlement (ESH) is seeking a Tutor to provide structured academic support and guidance to high school students. The Tutor will help students meet or exceed grade level standards, motivate students, and set a positive example. This role involves working one-on-one and in small groups, developing instructional strategies, documenting sessions, and administering assessments.
Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one and in small groups with students to provide academic intervention.
- Partner with the Academic Support Team to develop and implement instructional strategies.
- Regularly provide and/or exchange student information with Student Advocates and other program staff.
- Document all tutoring sessions in the Tutor Log, detailing student interactions, achievements, and potential concerns.
- Periodically administer assessments and collaborate with staff to analyze scores.
Requirements
- Must be available to work after school hours (e.g., 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m only).
- Must be enrolled in a college degree program.
- Employees must be clear to work at ESH.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
- DOE/PETS NYS Statewide Central Registry Clearance.
Skills
- Familiarity with NYC Regents standards.
- Knowledge of NYC High School Math & Reading Curriculum.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to create basic lesson plans.
- Familiarity with Common Core Standards is a plus.
