About the Role
This role supports the North American Department Store business through sales forecasting, inventory planning, and commercial analysis. The Assistant Manager translates retailer, product, and door-level performance into actionable recommendations to drive growth, optimize replenishment, maintain healthy stock levels, and reduce returns. Responsibilities include managing retail and gross sales forecasts, delivering weekly performance insights, and planning inventory for product launches and new door openings. Working closely with Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Demand Planning, and Supply Chain, the role aligns account plans with business targets, supports shipment execution, and contributes analysis and recommendations to retailer meetings and business reviews.
Responsibilities
- Analyze retailer, category, SKU, and door-level sales and inventory across the North American Department Store business to drive sales, optimize weeks of supply (WOS), and reduce returns.
- Own weekly performance reporting, translating results versus forecast and prior year into clear commercial insights, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
- Develop and maintain gross sales forecasts in alignment with retail sales, incorporating sales trends, promotional activity, launch plans, and inventory requirements to support net sales targets for budget/forecasting trend cycles.
- Manage replenishment recommendations by account and open to buy (OTB) planning, partnering with Commercial and retailer teams on reorders, stock balancing, and returns.
- Oversee inventory planning for new product launches, discontinued products, and limited-life SKUs to support sell-through and minimize residual stock.
- Partner with Marketing, Commercial, and Finance on bottoms-up SKU-level forecasts, aligning product and account plans with commercial targets.
- Align sell-in forecasts with Demand Planning and Supply Chain, incorporating retailer stock needs, product availability, shipment timing, and fill assumptions.
- Own new door opening forecasts and initial inventory profiles, coordinating launch timing, allocations, and replenishment requirements.
- Support retailer-facing meetings and cross-functional business reviews with clear analysis and recommendations, partnering with account teams, Ecommerce, Education, Field, and Marketing.
- Improve planning tools and reporting processes and deliver ad hoc analysis to support business decisions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial planning, retail planning, merchandising, or a related analytical role, ideally within beauty or department stores.
- Ability to translate complex sales and inventory data into clear insights and actionable recommendations that improve business performance.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to explain findings and recommendations to cross-functional partners.
- Solid understanding of retail math, sales forecasting, and inventory management, including weeks of supply, sell-through, and open-to-buy planning.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including lookup functions, complex formulas, pivot tables, and report building.
- Experience with Data Analytics Platforms and SAP is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience building, validating, and maintaining large datasets and combining quantitative analysis with commercial context.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, with the flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and improve existing processes.
