About the Role
The Network Technician is responsible for ensuring reliable LAN and WAN connectivity by installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining network infrastructure. This role supports physical and logical network connections, troubleshoots connectivity issues, and assists with the installation and maintenance of network hardware and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Provides connectivity to users and end devices throughout the LAN and WAN, including cable creation and documentation.
- Troubleshoots connectivity issues and ensures proper connection configuration.
- Installs and configures new network hardware, including switches, servers, and wireless devices.
- Monitors and verifies physical connectivity requirements for installations.
- Assists in servicing malfunctioning network equipment.
- Assists in applying updates and performing maintenance on network equipment and patch closets under supervision.
- Maintains detailed documentation of departmental policies and procedural changes.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science or related technical field and/or minimum equivalent experience of three years working in an IT environment.
- Knowledge of Networking Concepts, such as DNS, Internet Protocol, other network protocols, Routing, Remote Access, cabling systems, wiring topologies, and security.
- Knowledge of Operating Systems, such as Microsoft, Netware, AIX, Linux, Solaris, MAC, etc.
- Good organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to project a professional, positive, calm demeanor.
- Proven ability to work with Operating Systems technologies, Network Technologies, Hardware technologies, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexible and willing to be on call 24/7.
