About the Role

The Manager, Technology is a senior technical role responsible for the design, implementation, modernization, and ongoing evolution of enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and hybrid-cloud environments. This role provides technical leadership for complex infrastructure initiatives, establishes engineering standards and best practices, and partners with various teams to deliver secure, scalable, resilient, and supportable technology solutions. The role also provides technical guidance and mentorship to infrastructure engineers and administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) across multiple enterprise infrastructure technologies, including virtualization, compute, storage, SAN, Windows Server, Linux, and related platform services.
  • Lead the architecture, technical design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure solutions, with primary responsibility for on-premises environments and their integration with cloud services.
  • Contribute to technical standards, reference architectures, engineering practices, and infrastructure roadmaps that improve reliability, scalability, security, supportability, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate infrastructure technologies and emerging solutions and provide technical recommendations based on business requirements, architecture standards, operational impact, cost, risk, and long-term strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex infrastructure initiatives, including platform modernization, migrations, upgrades, consolidation, lifecycle management, and technology transformation.
  • Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, leading root-cause analysis and coordinating resolution across internal teams, vendors, and technology partners.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to infrastructure engineers and administrators, helping strengthen engineering practices and technical capabilities without formal direct-report responsibilities.
  • Architect, build, deploy, monitor, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise server, virtualization, storage, and SAN infrastructure.
  • Establish standards and technical strategies for infrastructure performance, capacity, availability, resilience, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead technical assessments and infrastructure health reviews to proactively identify performance, capacity, reliability, security, and lifecycle risks.
  • Ensure infrastructure platforms are designed and operated in alignment with enterprise security, compliance, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting of complex cross-platform issues spanning operating systems, compute, virtualization, storage, SAN, networking, and cloud-connected services.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, technical standards, operating procedures, configuration standards, knowledge articles, and engineering documentation.
  • Provide architectural guidance for hybrid infrastructure solutions connecting on-premises platforms with Azure, AWS, GCP, and other enterprise services where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize workloads and infrastructure through cloud, hybrid-cloud, automation, orchestration, and platform engineering capabilities.
  • Evaluate workload placement and infrastructure requirements to determine appropriate approaches across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid platforms.
  • Partner with cloud, security, networking, application, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure infrastructure solutions integrate effectively with broader technology strategies.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders, application teams, security, networking, cloud teams, architects, and technology leadership to understand requirements and develop appropriate infrastructure solutions.
  • Translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, resilient, and supportable architectures.
  • Present technical strategies, architectural recommendations, risks, trade-offs, and investment requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead technical discussions with vendors and strategic technology partners, challenging proposed solutions and ensuring they meet enterprise architecture and operational requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership during major incidents, infrastructure transformations, and high-risk technology changes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive enterprise infrastructure experience, including significant experience designing, engineering, implementing, and supporting complex production infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a senior technical lead, architect, or subject matter expert across multiple infrastructure technologies.
  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise virtualization platforms including Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESXi.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture, including compute, virtualization, storage, SAN, networking dependencies, identity, security, backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or supporting hybrid-cloud architectures integrating enterprise on-premises environments with Azure, AWS, and/or GCP.
  • Strong automation and scripting capabilities using PowerShell, Python, Bash, APIs, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience participating in or leading complex infrastructure migrations, modernization initiatives, platform upgrades, and technology transformations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with demonstrated experience performing root-cause analysis for complex infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent communication, architecture documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both highly technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technologies, define technical standards, and provide architectural recommendations and technical direction.
