About the Role
RSM UK's VAT Technology team seeks an Associate Director to deliver tax engine implementations and broader VAT data and process automation projects using Alteryx or similar technologies. This hands-on role involves client interaction, integration, configuration, workflow development, and testing, with opportunities for team growth and management.
Responsibilities
- Map products, services, and transaction data to tax engine logic, resolving VAT treatment questions with specialists.
- Configure tax rules and settings, document decisions, and test calculations.
- Test ERP integrations and connectors, including data flow and tax results, collaborating with client ERP resources and vendors.
- Participate in ERP system integration testing (SIT), perform unit testing, and support user acceptance testing (UAT) and defect resolution.
- Plan and manage implementation work, dependencies, risks, and client communications while delivering technically.
- Support cutover, go-live, and hypercare, investigate issues, and ensure client operational readiness.
- Design, build, and test VAT process automation using Alteryx or similar technologies, including data preparation, reconciliations, validation, and reporting.
- Identify manual VAT processes for automation, select appropriate tools, and document workflows and controls.
- Collaborate with VAT, tax, and consulting colleagues, and coach junior team members.
Requirements
- Evidenced, hands-on delivery of the technical aspects of tax engine implementations.
- Practical experience of data or process automation and interest in applying these skills to VAT challenges.
- Comfortable working beyond a single product.
- Substantial hands-on implementation experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Vertex O Series, or Avalara AvaTax tax engines, including integration, configuration, and testing.
- Experience across product mapping, integration testing, ERP SIT, unit testing, UAT support, go-live, and hypercare.
- Functional experience using an ERP or finance system and understanding transaction processing.
- Ability to lead a workstream or project, work with client finance and IT teams, and deliver with limited junior support.
- Clear documentation, sound judgement in defect investigation, and a strong client-service focus.
