About the Role
Hudson Valley Justice Center (HVJC) is seeking a full-time Housing Attorney to represent low-income tenants and families in housing matters, including evictions, illegal lockouts, and habitability/condemnation advocacy. The role involves direct representation, court appearances, and participation in community initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop individual cases and manage a caseload
- Refer clients to community partners, ensuring holistic services
- Litigate matters in city, justice, and federal courts, including appellate practice
- Participate in access to justice initiatives
- Conduct education presentations for the community and partners
- Adhere to HVJC policies, grant requirements, and professional standards
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the New York State Bar, or eligible for admission
- Understanding of housing and benefits dynamics
- Ability to manage a large caseload
- Excellent people skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Valid Driver License and access to own vehicle
