About the Role

Superhuman is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their Developer Experience/Release Engineering team in Berlin. This role is responsible for the entire code delivery process, from developer commit to user deployment across Superhuman's product suite. The team ensures fast, safe, and reliable shipping through CI/CD platforms, release pipelines, and rollout tooling, enabling engineers to deploy frequently and confidently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Engineers, fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
  • Own the strategy and roadmap for CI/CD, build, and release systems.
  • Drive faster, safer delivery by improving lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and time to restore.
  • Build and operate release tooling, including progressive rollouts, canaries, feature flags, automated rollback, and release health monitoring.
  • Coordinate release trains and launches across all products.
  • Partner with SRE, Infrastructure, and Security to ensure the reliability and compliance of the delivery platform.
  • Reduce friction for product engineers by optimizing build and test times and offering self-service paths.
  • Act as an escalation point and Incident Commander for release-related incidents.
  • Balance near-term pipeline fixes with foundational investments and make clear tradeoffs.
  • Stay hands-on by reviewing designs, debugging pipeline problems, and setting a high engineering bar.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software, DevOps, or release/build engineering experience.
  • 2+ years managing engineers with a record of hiring, developing, and retaining talent.
  • Hands-on depth in CI/CD systems and build tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite, Bazel).
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Kubernetes or another container orchestration system.
  • Experience shipping and operating release systems at scale using progressive delivery, feature flags, canary releases, and safe rollback.
  • Understanding of release practices across multiple surfaces (web, desktop, mobile, browser extensions, or backend services).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and observability tooling.
  • Experience using delivery metrics (DORA) to guide decisions.
  • Experience as an Incident Commander and running blameless postmortems.
  • Knowledge of software supply chain security basics (dependency management, artifact signing, secrets handling).
  • Experience managing people in a distributed or remote setting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, SRE, Security, QA, and Support.
  • Ability to operate well in ambiguity, set a high engineering bar, and empower senior engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Proactively manages tasks and priorities across multiple projects.
  • Analyzes and executes work efficiently.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments.
