About the Role
The Legal Specialist will drive the growth of Fintech business from a legal perspective. This role involves collaborating with product teams, supporting new service development, and navigating complex legal and regulatory landscapes in the Fintech and cryptocurrency sectors.
Responsibilities
- Review legal aspects during service design and create terms of use.
- Handle business partnerships, including M&A.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations such as the Payment Services Act, Installment Sales Act, Money Lending Business Act, and Financial Instruments and Exchange Act.
- Address premiums and labeling regulations for campaign initiatives and advertisements.
- Comply with consumer protection laws, including the Consumer Contract Act and the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.
- Draft and review contracts.
Requirements
- Alignment with the mission, values, and themes of the Mercari Group and its companies.
- Approximately 2-5 years of experience in corporate legal affairs.
- Legal experience related to finance or Fintech.
- Proficient Japanese language skills (CEFR - C1).
- Independent English language skills (CEFR - B2) are preferred.

- Involvement in the development and release of new businesses offers comprehensive and valuable experience, covering service backgrounds, specifications, and related legal regulations.
- Mercoin offers cryptocurrency trading services, and will continue to launch new services in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space, which is not always clearly regulated.
- This role offers a challenging environment to forge new legal practices in emerging areas in collaboration with relevant government ministries and organizations.
