About the Role
The Senior Analyst plays an important role in shaping CIBC Global Asset Management’s applied macro research and portfolio perspectives. As a core member of the Global Research team, you’ll report to the Global Head of Research and develop insightful research and strategy conclusions to inform the decision-making of various portfolio teams, with a particular focus on currency.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, frequent, and timely research and recommendations, with a focus on currency markets.
- Assess global macroeconomic, policy, and market developments, interpret complex and sometimes conflicting signals, and identify the risks and opportunities that matter most for portfolio positioning.
- Turn rigorous research into informed and relevant investment insight.
- Produce clear, actionable and decision-ready analysis that helps portfolio managers assess scenarios, develop informed views, implement intentional and purposeful risk positions, and add value to client portfolios.
- Communicate with clarity and conviction based upon informed opinions.
- Apply models with judgment.
- Use econometric and quantitative tools to test ideas, challenge assumptions, and support currency research.
- Use AI as appropriate to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Demonstrate sound judgment under uncertainty, balancing analytical rigour with responsiveness as market conditions evolve.
- Meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Comply with all applicable CIBC and line-of-business policies, standards, guidelines, and controls, and maintain eligibility for registration with the relevant securities commissions across Canada.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience producing high-quality macroeconomic or market analysis within financial markets, with a strong understanding of global macro dynamics, central banking, currencies, and capital markets.
- Connect economic, policy, and market developments to investment implications, form independent views, and make well-supported recommendations in environments where information is incomplete and time matters.
- Proficient in quantitative and research tools such as Python and Power BI, and use models as part of a broader investment research process.
- Energized by emerging technologies and interested in applying AI to improve research depth, workflow efficiency, and communication.
- Convey complex ideas clearly and succinctly, both in writing and verbally, adapt your message to different audiences, and contribute credibly to investment discussions.
- Take initiative, follow through on commitments, and deliver high-quality work under pressure, ambiguity, and limited guidance.
- Bring maturity, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Hold a master’s degree in economics, financial engineering, quantitative methods, or a related field.
- A CFA designation, or progress toward completion, is an asset.
