About the Role

The Game Day Lead is responsible for managing the game night operations, ensuring the gym is set up, streams are live, and staff are performing to the Brodie Standard. This role frees the League Manager to focus on relationships with players and fans. The Game Day Lead also takes charge of operations when the League Manager is off-site and serves as a direct path to a League Manager position.

Responsibilities

  • Own the gym setup, including courts, scorer's tables, check-in, and brand fixtures, ensuring all tasks are assigned and completed according to the site map and checklist.
  • Manage gym breakdown, ensuring equipment is counted, fixtures are packed, and the venue is left as expected.
  • Ensure all courts are live with BallerTV streams before the first game and monitor them throughout the night.
  • Troubleshoot and restore dropped streams quickly, logging issues and ensuring Game Day Operators are trained to handle setup and troubleshooting.
  • Assign roles and manage rotations for Game Day Operators, Referees, Athlete Highlight Specialists, and media staff (typically 5-20 people).
  • Redeploy staff for forfeits and no-shows, ensure check-in remains efficient, and handle overdue balances before games.
  • Escalate issues to the League Manager when necessary and inform them of potential late game starts.
  • Take charge of league night operations when the League Manager is off-site, including making forfeit calls and managing staff deployment.
  • Coach staff on the job, observe their performance, and hold them to the Brodie Standard regarding uniforms, positions, focus, branding, and phone usage.
  • Address performance issues by coaching on the spot for initial mistakes, documenting repeat issues, and escalating to the League Manager on the third occurrence.
  • Provide specific feedback to staff each night and conduct shadow shifts for new crew members.
  • Complete scoresheets and photo verification for reporting within 4 hours of the final game.
  • Confirm staff hours match actual work performed.
  • Submit a short end-of-night crew report detailing performance, issues, and resolutions.
  • Act as the first point of contact for operational questions from crew and venue staff.
  • Settle disputes brought by the crew before escalating to the League Manager.
  • Escalate significant issues such as unresolvable disputes, injuries, venue conflicts, or captain complaints to the League Manager.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience leading or supervising people in events, hospitality, retail, fitness, or sports operations (e.g., shift lead, supervisor, head coach).
  • Proven ability to teach tasks, hold individuals accountable, and upsell or ask for sales.
  • Comfortable with technology setup, including cameras, laptops, Wi-Fi, and streaming apps, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide direct, non-personal corrections.
  • Availability for all game nights (approximately 6 PM to midnight, including weekends) and on-site presence for the entire duration.
  • A strong connection to basketball through playing, coaching, refereeing, or organizing.
  • Reliable transportation.
