About the Role
Ode is Anthropic's services venture, focused on bringing frontier AI into practice by tackling complex AI problems for companies and driving real-world impact. This role is crucial for building Ode's accounting function from the ground up, supporting the first audit, and establishing a robust control environment for rapid growth and acquisitions.
Responsibilities
- Transition accounting from an outsourced partner to an in-house function.
- Run the monthly, quarterly, and annual close under US GAAP across all entities.
- Automate reconciliations, accruals, flux, and close preparation using AI tools.
- Establish ASC 606 revenue recognition policy for various service agreements.
- Partner with Commercial and Legal teams on deal structuring for clear revenue treatment.
- Design and implement controls for order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, payroll, and the close process.
- Manage purchase accounting and integration for acquisitions.
- Establish new entities and intercompany accounting.
- Own the chart of accounts.
- Define requirements for migrating from QuickBooks to a modern ERP system.
Requirements
- 10+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting.
- 3+ years as a Controller or Assistant Controller at a high-growth company.
- Experience leading a first audit.
- Experience migrating a company to a modern ERP system.
- Expertise in US GAAP, particularly ASC 606 for project-based and variable revenue.
- Experience with multi-entity consolidation and purchase accounting.
- Demonstrated experience building or automating accounting tasks with AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor).
- Proficiency in systems, automation, and AI before adding headcount.
- High performance standards, urgency, and motivation to build exceptional outcomes.
