Responsibilities

  • Lead system integration across BESS, BMS, PCS, EMS, plant controls, SCADA, substations, metering, communications, cybersecurity, and utility interfaces.
  • Develop responsibility matrices, interface documents, points lists, network boundaries, and sequence-of-operations requirements.
  • Review controls narratives, network architecture, panel layouts, I/O lists, alarm strategies, communications pathways, redundancy requirements, and system designs.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, utilities, engineers, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.
  • Support implementation and testing of communication protocols including DNP3, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, ICCP, and related systems.
  • Validate active and reactive power controls, charge and discharge functionality, voltage and frequency response, ramp rates, curtailment, and operating modes.
  • Support preconstruction activities, including technical reviews, RFP development, bid evaluations, scope clarification, and contract requirements.
  • Develop standard architectures, specifications, templates, testing procedures, and best practices for repeatable project delivery.
  • Plan and support FATs, SATs, point-to-point testing, network validation, software testing, and integrated system testing.
  • Support commissioning, energization, troubleshooting, performance testing, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate cybersecurity requirements, remote access, firewalls, backups, system recovery, and network reliability.
  • Lead technical punch-list activities and verify final software, documentation, training materials, testing records, and turnover deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in BESS, power plant controls, SCADA, industrial controls, utility automation, or grid-connected energy systems.
  • Experience integrating BMS, PCS, EMS, plant controllers, SCADA, RTACs, protection systems, metering, communications, and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Working knowledge of SEL RTACs or similar platforms, PLCs, HMIs, historians, managed networks, firewalls, time synchronization systems, and utility communications protocols.
  • Experience reviewing controls narratives, network drawings, I/O lists, alarm matrices, interface documents, test procedures, and vendor submittals.
  • Hands-on FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and integrated-system testing experience.
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection requirements, plant controls, telemetry, performance testing, and grid-support functions.
  • Experience translating EPC requirements, OEM obligations, and utility standards into technical scopes, deliverables, and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate utilities, owners, OEMs, integrators, engineering teams, and commissioning providers.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, OEM facilities, and testing locations as needed.
