About the Role
Substitute Teaching Assistants support instruction and student needs in assigned classrooms in the absence of regular Teaching Assistants, providing services under the general supervision of a teacher. They accept day-to-day assignments across all 34 SCSD schools and 4 programs.
Responsibilities
- Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials.
- Support instruction as prescribed in the classroom teacher’s lessons.
- Work with individual students and/or groups of students on instructional projects.
- Assist students in the use of available resources and assist in the development of instructional materials.
- Utilize own skills and abilities to assist with programming in languages, arts, crafts, music, and similar subjects.
- Assist students with specific health related activities as appropriate.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Follow all school and classroom procedures.
- Perform toileting needs for students in Special Education classrooms.
- Perform feeding needs for students in Special Education classrooms.
- Perform lifting of students in Special Education classrooms.
- Perform pushing students in assistive devices (e.g. wheelchairs) in Special Education classrooms.
- Perform other related duties as directed by Principal or Vice Principal.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Interest in serving Syracuse City schools and students.
- Ability to accept daily assignments in various SCSD schools and programs.
- Must pass a fingerprint-based background check ($104.50 cost to candidate).
