About the Role
Design tools that make complex data and AI workflows intuitive and powerful. Simplify how data is connected, understood, and activated so organizations can turn information into business outcomes. Designers at Databricks combine strong visual craft with systems thinking to shape products used by advanced data teams, business users, and AI agents.
Responsibilities
- Own design for an area of the Databricks Platform end to end, from problem framing to shipped detail.
- Set the quality bar for design in your area, making critical decisions and improving work from designers, PM, engineering, and AI tools.
- Advocate with evidence by staying in contact with customers, choosing research methods, and turning research into actionable insights.
- Show experience improvement by defining success metrics for key user tasks and demonstrating progress through testing and usage data.
- Influence product and engineering decisions with prototypes, focused design reviews, and clear communication.
- Prototype to explore ambiguous problems, reduce risk, and align teams on a direction.
- Design directly in the codebase with AI coding agents to ship design changes alongside engineers.
- Define reusable UX principles, interaction patterns, and frameworks, driving consistency through a design system.
- Raise the level of critique by giving and inviting high-quality feedback and facilitating clear decisions with product and engineering.
Requirements
- 5+ years of product design work experience.
- A portfolio demonstrating your end-to-end design process, from inception to production.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large and complex design projects and balance the needs of diverse stakeholders.
- A systems thinker with the vision for the big picture and the tactical ability to break it down for incremental engineering success.
- A deep understanding of business goals, customer needs, emerging AI capabilities, and the evolving data and technology landscape.
- Self-directed and comfortable in ambiguity, helping to shape product direction when the path is undefined.
- Beautiful visual and interaction work rooted in a data-driven, well-researched UX process.
- Experience designing developer tools, data/analytics products, AI/ML products, or enterprise software (nice to have).
- Experience designing products that bridge the gap between technical and business users (nice to have).
- Demonstrated experience using modern development and AI-assisted coding tools to prototype ideas, understand implementation tradeoffs, and collaborate deeply with engineering teams (strongest candidates).
