About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who owns the engineering behind custom process equipment and stays hands-on in the model. You design skid-based, modular and containerized systems in 2D and 3D, back them with calculations and analysis, and take them from concept to a validated, buildable design. You are comfortable working directly with clients, communicating clearly, asking the right questions, and synthesizing their input into clear, documented project requirements and a design basis the team can build from.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of industrial process systems, especially skid-based and modular equipment, from requirements through release, commissioning support and handoff.
  • Model and manage SolidWorks parts, assemblies, weldments and sheet metal, and AutoCAD 2D/3D layouts.
  • Develop general arrangements, equipment layouts, fabrication and assembly drawings, and bills of material.
  • Define technical requirements, design bases and specifications with clients and the project team.
  • Perform engineering calculations, and select and size equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, tanks, valves and drives.
  • Run simulation and analysis (FEA, structural, thermal, pipe stress) and ensure designs meet ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, and client requirements.
  • Lead technical design reviews, evaluate design solutions, and provide guidance to project teams and customers.
  • Partner with fabrication and assembly teams to resolve technical challenges and support successful equipment builds and installations.
  • Support project planning, technical proposals, and engineering estimates.
  • Mentor junior designers and engineers, providing technical guidance and reviewing design and engineering work.
  • Improve engineering and design standards, tools, and processes to enhance quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • A BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 7+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in process equipment, industrial systems or engineering services.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D and 2D modelling software including SolidWorks and working AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Strong experience with engineering calculations, equipment sizing and selection, and design analysis (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS or similar).
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME Section VIII, and ASME B31.3.
  • Ability to independently manage complex design assignments from concept through detailed design and release.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, solving design challenges, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance to other designers.
  • An associate degree, bachelor's degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional experience in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work onsite in Rochester and/or Rush, NY, with occasional travel up to 25%.
