About the Role
RELAY Fire & Safety is seeking a Fire Extinguisher Service Technician to join our growing team. This role involves traveling to customer locations to inspect, service, maintain, and repair portable fire extinguishers, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations. It's ideal for individuals with strong mechanical skills looking for a hands-on career where they can make a difference and grow professionally.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers at commercial and industrial customer locations.
- Inspect fire extinguishers for proper placement, accessibility, condition, and compliance with NFPA 10 and applicable fire codes.
- Perform fire extinguisher maintenance, recharging, and replacement as needed.
- Conduct or assist with hydrostatic testing in accordance with applicable NFPA and DOT requirements.
- Replace inspection tags, seals, labels, and other components as required.
- Identify deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, service records, and compliance documentation using company-approved software.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding inspection results, service recommendations, and fire safety requirements.
- Follow company safety procedures and maintain high standards of workmanship.
- Stay current with applicable fire protection regulations and industry standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage daily assignments, and maintain accurate records.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Dependable, organized, and committed to workplace safety.
- Willingness to learn applicable NFPA standards, fire codes, and industry regulations.
- Ability to obtain required certifications within established timeframes.

Experience Level
- 1-3 years of experience inspecting, servicing, or maintaining portable fire extinguishers (preferred)
- Experience in fire protection, fire suppression, safety equipment, or a related field service industry (preferred)
Education Level

- FDNY S-96 Certificate of Fitness or ability to obtain
- Nassau County Certificate of Fitness – Portable Fire Extinguisher Service, or ability to obtain
- Fire extinguisher inspection or service certifications
