About the Role
Condé Nast is a renowned media publishing company. The Senior Manager, Content Planning is a key editorial leader on the WIRED Reviews team, responsible for managing the day-to-day newsroom operation, directly managing writers and producers, and ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality, useful, and commercially valuable journalism.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage WIRED Reviews writers and producers, setting clear expectations around assignments, output, deadlines, testing, reporting, earnings, and editorial quality; provide regular feedback, coaching, and career development.
- Own the day-to-day Reviews editorial pipeline, maintaining a clear view of what is assigned, due, in edit, scheduled, updating, or at risk—and what it’s earning.
- Edit and Reviews content to improve monetization as needed and enforce standards for structure, accuracy, voice, usefulness, testing methodology, sourcing, disclosure, and copy quality.
- Hold writers accountable to deadlines and production expectations—particularly around tentpoles—while identifying capacity issues, bottlenecks, or resource needs early.
- Translate priorities from commerce, SEO, analytics, editorial, audience development, and other departments into detailed editorial plans, assignments, schedules, and measurable deliverables.
- Maintain and improve the Reviews editorial calendar, assignment systems, author trackers, update queues, and other content-management tools, including AirTable.
- Coordinate the team’s evergreen update program, ensuring priority buying guides and reviews are refreshed based on seasonality, product launches, audience demand, SEO recommendations, and business opportunity.
- Drive consistent production of timely deals and other commerce content, ensuring writers are identifying opportunities within their beats and meeting agreed-upon output goals.
- Lead operational planning for major shopping and editorial tentpoles, including Amazon Prime Day(s), Black Friday/Cyber Monday, gifting holidays, CES, major product launches, and other high-priority moments. Build detailed tentpole plans covering staffing, assignments, deadlines, update schedules, content volume, handoffs, and contingency plans, and manage execution throughout the event.
- Run regular planning and production meetings and communicate editorial priorities, workflow changes, deadlines, and expectations clearly across the team.
- Manage producers to ensure quality video and photography.
- Maintain and improve editorial documentation, onboarding materials, production standards, and team workflows.
- Identify recurring operational problems and build better processes, automation, or systems to solve them.
- Be the liaison between editors and writers to ensure efficiency of edits and manage editorial assignment for content plan.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in digital journalism. A background in high-volume commerce content strongly preferred: product reviews, buying guides, deals, or other service journalism.
- 3+ years of experience managing writers, editors, producers, or other editorial staff.
- Exceptional project-management and organizational skills, with experience running a high-volume publishing operation or complex editorial calendar.
- Excellent people-management skills, including setting expectations, giving actionable feedback, coaching writers, and managing performance.
