About the Role

The Smart Hands Technician provides client-requested onsite support including visual checks, basic equipment handling, cabling assistance, and escorting. The role works within clearly defined tasks, response-time, and escalation boundaries, and does not perform specialist or authorized work outside assigned competency.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to approved Smart Hands requests within agreed response, service, and escalation timelines.
  • Perform visual checks, status verification, basic equipment handling, label checks, and approved physical inspections within authorized scope.
  • Provide basic cabling support, tracing, connection verification, and documentation while protecting live systems from unintended disruption.
  • Escort customers, vendors, and contractors, maintaining site access, security, and work-area controls at all times.
  • Capture photographs, serial numbers, readings, and service evidence accurately, and update tickets and service records in line with process requirements.
  • Identify tasks requiring specialist skills, permits, isolations, or further authorization, and escalate them promptly through approved channels.
  • Follow site procedures, ESD controls, PPE, information-security requirements, and safe-work practices in a live data hall environment.
  • Support general operational tasks, tool control, inventory management, and work-area readiness as assigned by the Lead Engineer.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in technical support, data centres, telecoms, IT hardware, facilities operations, or a similar support environment.
  • Basic understanding of data centre equipment, racks, cabling, access control, and ESD requirements.
  • Experience with ticketing systems, service records, equipment identification, and secure-site procedures is advantageous.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, understand task boundaries, and escalate appropriately when work falls outside approved scope.
  • Strong attention to detail, procedural discipline, and confidence working under service-level expectations.
  • Clear Japanese communication and working English preferred for customer coordination, remote guidance, and reporting.
  • Basic rack, network-cabling, and hardware identification capability, with experience in remote hands or Smart Hands support preferred.
  • Availability for onsite response and approved call-out support in a live operational environment.
