About the Role
The Google Sovereign Cloud Australia team delivers software and solutions tailored to high-assurance government environments. The team helps guide product evolution and ensure robust, continuous compliance across all software and infrastructure components. In this role, you will work with a range of cross-functional technical teams and have an active role in ensuring the systems we build are robust with appropriate security controls.
Responsibilities
- Advise engineering teams on software deployment, containerization, build pipelines, and artifact verification tailored for air-gapped, disconnected, and tactical edge environments.
- Provide authoritative design guidance on zero-trust architectures, highly available/reliable distributed system design, and reliable operation of core system services in challenging environments.
- Serve as a trusted engineering subject matter expert, bridging complex technical discussions between internal Google teams, delivery partners, and key external stakeholders.
- Translate designs to functioning API definitions, code, automation scripts, and infrastructure/security configuration files to build, test/validate, and enforce security controls.
- Work closely with Security Assurance and Compliance teams to identify, map, implement, and maintain technical security controls aligned with the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or distributed systems within public sector or other regulated environments.
- Experience in building secure and reliable systems.
- Experience in software system architecture.
