About the Role
Lead the Global Recommendations and Ranking domain, responsible for services that serve, rank, and orchestrate recommendations across Delivery Hero brands. This role shapes the global consumer experience for millions of users, impacting customer attraction, retention, and personalized interactions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the domain's engineering squads through managers, with clear priorities and shared success measures.
- Co-own the domain vision and mission with the product counterpart, translating tribe goals into domain goals with an 18-month horizon.
- Grow and coach engineering managers, hire new talent, and prepare the domain for performance reviews.
- Sponsor the migration from legacy recommendation services to a unified global platform, ensuring shared components, model reuse, and technical KPIs.
- Ensure cross-squad delivery is on track by detecting blockers and dependencies, escalating when needed, and using delivery metrics to identify inefficiencies.
- Maintain domain discipline, including documented engineering practices, reliability and incident learning, budget management, and security vulnerability resolution within SLA.
Requirements
- Several years of engineering leadership, including managing managers or leading three or more squads, with a track record of scaling impact through others.
- Hands-on experience shipping and running recommendation, ranking, search, or personalization systems in production.
- Sufficient depth to challenge design decisions on real-time inference, model serving, feature pipelines, and experimentation.
- Experience with stacks including Go, Python, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, and event streaming.
- Ability to turn fuzzy business problems and tribe goals into realistic multi-quarter roadmaps and align stakeholders.
- Proven ability to grow engineers into managers, attract top talent, and manage performance at domain scale.
- Experience measuring a domain with standard delivery and technical KPIs and improving them without micromanaging.
- Track record of managing a budget alongside a senior leader and defining a security approach for production services.
- Ability to partner as an equal with Product, Data Science, Platform, and Operations.
- Clear communication in written and spoken English.
