About the Role
AXIS is seeking a Senior Claim Director, Specialty Complex Claims to join our North America Claims team. This role will manage a wide variety of claims with coverage issues and coverage litigation, engaging with stakeholders, brokers, and insureds to ensure constant communication and service engagement.
Responsibilities
- Directly handle claims involving complex coverage issues, including investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability and damages.
- Directly handle coverage disputes, including litigation and arbitration matters.
- Formulate claims and litigation strategies, assigning and managing outside counsel.
- Manage coverage counsel and litigation costs, collaborating with Litigation Management and Vendor Management teams.
- Manage discovery issues and responses, ensuring proper preparation of company witnesses.
- Provide guidance to North America Claims teams on coverage issues, disputes, and claim handling.
- Review coverage positions for matters pending in states as required.
- Collaborate across disciplines and business units, including the general counsel team.
- Manage selection of and requests to hire coverage counsel.
- Identify liability and coverage trends and issues, formulating strategies for handling claims and coverage issues.
- Support response to underwriting inquiries regarding policy construction, claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments.
- Coach and mentor North America claim teams on coverage issues and guidance.
- Build and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate extensively with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, insureds, and auditors.
Requirements
- 7-10+ years of claims management experience handling a wide variety of coverage issues and coverage litigation.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills.
- Experience practicing law and claims management (both directly managed and TPA managed claims).
- Ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex, disputed claims.
- Analytical thinker capable of driving results using legal and claims processes.
- Understanding of and ability to balance immediate claim issues with broader portfolio and customer service impacts.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability and experience handling coverage issues involving a wide variety of loss scenarios.
- In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and negotiating skills.
- Law Degree and admission in good standing to one of the fifty state bars.
- Adjuster Licenses in all states required by AXIS.
- Travel is associated with this role.
