About the Role
As a Senior Design Engineer for PCL Constructors Pacific Rim PTY Ltd. in Sydney, New South Wales, you’ll have the opportunity to build a career you are proud of. Our Solar team, powered by industry leading experts, help bring our clients visions to life.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of solar PV systems, including grid-connected and hybrid systems.
- Develop and review detailed electrical and structural designs, including single-line diagrams, layout drawings, cable schedules, and protection schemes.
- Perform energy yield assessments using tools like PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033, IEC, local grid codes).
- Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and construction teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with project goals.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering to optimize system performance and cost.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to obtain design approvals and permits.
- Support commissioning and troubleshooting activities during project execution.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and processes.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in solar PV system design, preferably within an EPC or consultancy environment.
- Familiarity with Australian standards and grid connection processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams.
Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, and other relevant design and simulation tools.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies.
