About the Role
As a Principal Consultant, you will be the first point of contact for customers to brainstorm business problems. You will frame problems, shape approaches, provide technical direction, and remain hands-on throughout delivery. This role involves working in experienced, small, high-impact teams to solve complex challenges in consulting and tech delivery, influencing teams, mentoring practitioners, managing stakeholders, and guiding organizations through significant technology and business decisions.
Responsibilities
- Frame problems and propose solutions for customers.
- Facilitate discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and technical workshops.
- Translate business goals into technology strategy and execution plans.
- Lead through technical excellence, contributing directly to design, architecture, implementation, and review.
- Make pragmatic decisions balancing business needs, engineering quality, and delivery timelines.
- Guide teams in building scalable, resilient, and secure systems and practices.
- Act as a trusted advisor on technology and investment decisions, including assessments and due diligence.
- Build trust and alignment across internal and customer teams.
- Converge competing priorities into a clear path forward.
- Communicate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Shape new work through discovery and proposals.
- Mentor others and elevate technical standards.
- Operate across technology domains including distributed systems, data engineering, AI & agentic systems, and DevOps/SRE.
- Demonstrate depth in a few areas and breadth across others, appreciating trade-offs in context.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience building software systems in complex environments.
- Strong engineering fundamentals with expertise in at least one programming language; polyglot experience is ideal.
- Hands-on experience designing and delivering distributed systems at scale.
- Deep understanding of architecture, system design, and engineering trade-offs.
- Direct experience working with customers and business stakeholders.
- Ability to reach for the simplest effective solution and distrust accidental complexity.
- Systems thinking approach, not focusing on isolated parts.
- Ability to maintain calm and build clarity in unclear situations.
- Skill in moving between the organizational-level picture and technical details.
- Curiosity and ability to quickly learn new domains.
- Preference for solving real problems directly with customers.
